Southend United Football Club has confirmed the appointment of Jonathan Duckett as head of recruitment.
Duckett joins with experience across all four top divisions of English football and international work with the FA.
He spent the last two seasons as head of recruitment at Colchester United and has held senior roles at Norwich City and The FA, where he supported the talent ID department working with Gareth Southgate’s squads at the 2018 World Cup and UEFA Euro 2021.
He will work closely with director of football Oliver Gage and the incoming head coach as preparations continue for the 2026/27 season.
Duckett said: “I’m really excited to be joining Southend United at such an important moment for the club. It’s a club with huge support, real passion and enormous potential, and that was something that really stood out to me throughout the discussions.
“There is clearly a real ambition to move the club forward, and I’m looking forward to working with everybody at the training ground and around the football department ahead of what is a very important summer.
“I can’t wait to get started and help build a squad that supporters can be proud of.”
Gage said: “Jon has operated at a very high level across recruitment, scouting and player identification for many years, and his recent experience leading recruitment within League Two was particularly important to us.
“He brings experience, professionalism, strong local knowledge and the ability to make an immediate impact as we continue preparations for next season.
“We believe there is a strong platform already in place within the squad, while also recognising there is room for growth and improvement as we continue developing the club’s football structure over the long term.”
Gage added: “We’re delighted to welcome Jon to the club and believe he will be a major asset moving forward.”
