The BMW Group Academy UK and Ireland is celebrating 20 years of training and development, marking two decades of supporting skills across the BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad retail network.
Opened in 2006, the purpose-built academy spans more than 5,400 square metres and combines technical workshops, classrooms and simulated showroom environments designed to reflect real-world retail settings.
Since opening, the academy has delivered more than 150,000 training courses and completed over 370,000 face-to-face training days across technical and non-technical subjects.
Training has evolved alongside wider changes in the automotive sector, covering areas including electric vehicles, high-voltage systems, connected technologies and digital retail.
Tracy McGarva, general manager at BMW Group Academy UK and Ireland, said: “For 20 years, the BMW Group Academy has been central to developing the skills and capability of our retailer network across the UK and Ireland.
“As the industry evolves at pace – from electrification to digital retail – our commitment to investing in people remains unchanged, ensuring our Retail Partner teams are ready to deliver the future of premium mobility.
“Supporting apprentices and early-career talent has been a cornerstone of the Academy from the very beginning, creating long-term capability and sustainable careers across our Retail Network.”
In 2022, BMW Group Academy UK became the first IMI TechSafe Centre of Excellence, recognising its work in EV and safety-critical vehicle training.
The academy also supported the launch of the new BMW iX3 in January 2026, delivering product training to more than 6,500 retailer staff over a six-week period.
BMW said apprenticeships have remained a key focus since the academy opened, with apprentice numbers increasing from 160 in 2006 to 450 across the network today.
The milestone was marked at the academy’s annual awards ceremony last week, which celebrated apprentices and retailer colleagues from across the BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad network.
This year’s event included the graduation of 144 apprentices beginning careers within the BMW Group retailer network, alongside recognition for newly qualified master technicians and Apprentice of the Year award winners.
