Employers will need help to support the wide range of health and wellbeing needs their staff have, according to research by Towergate Employee Benefits.
The survey asked employers where they expected to see increased demand for support.
Out of 28 areas identified, all were seen as important by at least some employers.
Mental health topped the list, but needs ranged from caring responsibilities to neurodiversity.
Debra Clark, head of wellbeing at Towergate Employee Benefits, said: “Workplace health and wellbeing support is evolving at a rate of knots.
“Demand is increasing massively but it is important to bear in mind that the actual support itself is increasing and developing to match this.
“Some employers may have a challenge in keeping up to speed with what is available and where to find it, but help is available.”
Clark said that looking at employee surveys, absence and claims data, and understanding the staff demographic can help employers decide what support is needed.
This might mean focusing on gender-based or life-stage support, such as men’s mental health, fertility, eldercare or retirement planning.
Some benefits, like fitness apps or trackers, can be used by a wide range of staff.
Access to a virtual GP and health screening are also popular with most employees.
Additionally, Clark said it is better to focus on a few key benefits that help the majority, rather than trying to cover every possible need.
She said employers should also consider what’s already included in other benefits, such as cash plans and group risk.
Clark added: “There is huge pressure to offer more and more benefits but it is more important to offer ones that really make a difference to staff.
“Employers would be wise to seek expert advice on the latest benefits offerings and what would work best for their individual company situation and aspirations.”
