More than 60 adults with learning disabilities in Milton Keynes have been supported into work through a programme backed by Milton Keynes City Council.
The initiative is run by local charity MK SNAP, using part of a £4m investment from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, managed by the council.
Funding from the council enabled MK SNAP to partner with Bletchley-based M&M Supplies, which now employs several people with learning disabilities in roles including data entry, customer service and warehouse work.
MK SNAP’s Enable programme provides tailored training and support for adults with learning disabilities, helping them develop workplace skills.
The charity has been active in Milton Keynes for over 30 years, offering life skills, education and employment routes.
Other projects supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund include park improvements, energy efficiency upgrades, skills programmes and support for female tech entrepreneurs.
Cabinet Member for Planning and Placemaking Councillor Shanika Mahendran, said: “It’s absolutely wonderful to hear these brilliant stories about local people thriving in their workplaces, giving them independence, empowerment and opportunity in paid employment.
“My thanks go out to MK SNAP, who are doing extraordinary work to help people with learning disabilities realise their true potential.”
Katie James, grants and projects coordinator at MK SNAP, said: “This project is changing lives of people with learning disabilities and employers, opening up opportunities that may not otherwise have been available.”
