The employment rate for people aged 16 to 64 rose 0.8 percentage points over the quarter and 0.1 percentage points on the year to 72.1%.

The number of payrolled employees in the UK fell by 85,000 (0.3%) between May 2025 and May 2026.

More than 1.4 million employers claimed Employment Allowance in 2025-26 after the Government expanded eligibility and more than doubled the value of the relief.

Connect to Work was designed to support people facing the most significant barriers to employment.

Employers are increasingly shifting from one-off pre-employment screening to continuous workforce monitoring, with new global research highlighting growing concerns around fraud, identity verification and workforce risk.

Permanent job placements declined at their fastest rate since July 2025 in May, while employers increased their use of temporary workers amid heightened economic uncertainty.

Jon Hickton said: “The development will support economic growth and productivity, delivering an estimated annual £24m GVA from on-site jobs and £372k in business rates."
The study from Graduate Outcomes found graduates from Scotland were most likely to have lived, studied and worked all in the same local authority at 16.4%.

Data from the Labour Force Survey revealed that 917,000 people aged between 50 and 66 are currently unemployed.
