37% of employees say their workplace has an AI policy – Reward Gateway | Edenred

Research from Reward Gateway | Edenred found a clear gap between HR teams and employees on policies for using artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace.

Just 37% of employees said their business had some form of policy or guidance in place, compared to 68% of HR teams.

When asked about AI policy, 16% of employees said their workplace had a formal policy, 21% said there were informal guidelines, 17% said a policy was being developed, and 26% said there were no plans for one.

Among HR teams, 37% said there was a formal policy, 31% had informal guidelines, 23% were working on one, and 7% had no plans.

More than a third of HR teams said they use AI to organise training on the technology.

Eight in 10 HR managers said they had implemented some form of training, with 41% providing formal training and 40% providing informal training.

22% said they had not provided any training but planned to do so in the future.

Chris Britton, director of people experience at Reward Gateway | Edenred, said: “Learning and developing new skills is an important part of the workplace, not just to promote resilience within employees but also to boost engagement and performance.

“The use of AI is a great example of how workplaces can support the uptake of new software, platforms and tools, giving employees the confidence to work with it adeptly and efficiently.

“With AI usage becoming a growing requirement within workplaces, it’s important that training and guidelines are rolled out to accompany this.”

Britton added: “Employees should have a reference point for how to use it within a business environment, and formal training will also provide the opportunity for those unfamiliar with AI to grow comfortable with it.

“Rather than leave employees in the dark, protocol when it comes to using AI will nurture skills beneficial not just to individuals, but also to businesses hoping to harness its potential.”
