Workers at outsourcer Capita will today begin strike action in a dispute over pay for 2025.
This industrial action will start today (29th January 2025) and will be ongoing until 5.59am on Wednesday (5th February 2025).
According to Unite, the workers from Capita were due a 2024 pay award last April.
The employer postponed annual pay talks with the assurance that the workers would be given a pay rise in October.
According to Unite, this has not materialised despite this part of the business reporting profits and a healthy balance sheet.
In December 2024, workers voted overwhelmingly to take strike action across the two Capita sites.
The dispute involves around 1,000 employees.
Sharon Graham, general secretary at Unite, said: “This is a company that can fully afford to give its workers a decent pay rise but has cynically failed to do so to boost its profits.
“Capita should be under no illusions about the strength of feeling of Unite members in its workplaces over pay.
“Our members at Capita will receive the union’s unwavering support.”
The Capita staff in Manchester and Glasgow work on Royal London account which will all face disruption and delays if industrial action takes place.
Dominic Hook, national officer at Unite, said: “Capita has had months to sit down with Unite to negotiate with the union to ensure its workforce receive a fair pay deal for 2024.
“If the bosses at Capita think hiding from their staff will make this issue go away, they should think again.
“Because of the lack of action by management the Capita contract with Royal London and will now face delays and disruption.”
Strike action will start at 07:00 on Wednesday 29 January and pickets will be in place.
The picket locations and times on Wednesday 29th January would be in Manchester, Broadhurst House, 56 Oxford Street, M1 6EU and Glasgow from 8am to 10am at The Skypark, 8 Elliot Place, G3 8EP.
