Cornish Resources Limited, a subsidiary of Strategic Minerals Plc, has donated £5,000 to fund a scholarship for a female UK student taking the MSc Exploration and Mining Geology course at the University of Exeter’s Camborne School of Mines.

The scholarship is aimed at boosting diversity in mining and geology, where women have been underrepresented.

Camborne School of Mines runs specialist programmes that combine academic training with practical experience.

The MSc course covers skills needed for current industry challenges, such as sustainable resource extraction.

Emily Widdecombe, sustainability manager at Cornish Resources, said: “At Cornwall Resources, we are proud to support the next generation of geologists, and particularly to encourage more women to enter this dynamic industry.

“By investing in talented students at the Camborne School of Mines, we are helping to build a diverse, skilled workforce that will drive innovation and sustainable practices in mining for years to come.”

Professor Pat Foster, head of Camborne School of Mines, said: “We are delighted to see Cornish Resources supporting a female student on our MSc Exploration and Mining Geology programme.

“Scholarships like this not only help talented individuals pursue their ambitions but also play a vital role in promoting diversity and inclusion within the mining industry, ensuring it continues to grow with fresh ideas and perspectives.”
