The audit found Mitie had strong health and safety procedures supported by committed leadership and training through its Live Safe Programme.
It showed that Mitie uses data-driven systems to monitor safety and encourages feedback from staff.
Additionally, the review found Mitie sites are clean, well-managed and meet workplace welfare, food safety and regulatory standards.
It also showed how Mitie promotes a culture where hazards are reported and discussed in governance forums.
The company also runs awareness campaigns and inclusive practices to support diversity, equity and inclusion.
The five-star award followed a review of documents, interviews with management, staff and stakeholders, and observations at Mitie sites in sectors such as defence, aviation, waste management, healthcare, retail and security.
The audit measured leadership, commitment, risk management, health and safety culture and ongoing improvement.
