The Government has announced a £70m investment to expand Armed Forces cadet forces by 30% by 2030, creating places for more than 40,000 additional young people across the UK.
Launched under the new ‘30 by 30’ campaign, the expansion is part of the Strategic Defence Review and aims to give more young people access to skills, training and opportunities regardless of background.
The initiative also supports the Government’s Plan for Change to break down barriers holding back young people.
The RAF Air Cadets will become the first military youth organisation in Britain certified to train drone pilots, once its training manual is approved by the Civil Aviation Authority. This will allow cadets to gain industry-accredited qualifications in drone piloting.
The Government is also beginning the search for a new National Cadet Champion to promote the benefits of cadet forces, while plans include more joint Army and Air Cadet Centres, streamlined processes for adult volunteers, and greater involvement from regular and reserve military personnel.
Minister for Veterans and People, Alistair Carns MP, said: “Every young person deserves the chance to discover their potential, regardless of their postcode or family income.
“The cadet experience doesn’t just build character – it transforms futures, helping young people build confidence, develop skills and meet new people.”
