The Architects Registration Board (ARB) has set out four main goals as part of its equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) strategy for 2025 to 2027.
ARB said it aims to make the register more inclusive, widen access for underrepresented groups, support better workplace cultures and end discrimination and sexual harassment in architecture.
The first goal focuses on changes inside the organisation.
ARB said it will set up an internal working group to collect ideas from staff and plan EDI improvements.
The second goal is to increase access to the register for groups that are currently underrepresented.
ARB has started a tender process for a research project to check if its education reforms are making it easier for these groups to join the profession.
The new education framework is meant to offer more routes to registration.
The third goal is to drive more inclusive workplace cultures.
ARB said it will run a new survey of registrants to track data on demographics, career progression and people leaving architecture.
The fourth goal is to end discrimination and sexual harassment.
ARB plans to create a resource hub to help people who experience discrimination and help staff deal with unethical behaviour.
Alan Kershaw, chair at ARB, said: “This strategy is a bold step toward building a profession that truly reflects the diversity of our society, and a profession where talent and ability, not background or circumstance, determine success.
“We know the Register does not yet represent the society it serves, and that must change.
“This strategy is about more than promises – it outlines the actions we will take and are already taking to widen access to the Register.”
