Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI) is set to highlight the need for healthier workplaces at the Balmoral Show next week.

HSENI experts will promote healthier workplaces, focusing on stress, lung health, musculoskeletal problems and occupational cancers.

HSENI staff will be at stand EK92 in the Eikon Centre from 14th to 17th May 2025.

The team will also offer advice, resources and guidance on managing and reducing health risks at work.

Bryan Monson, deputy chief executive of HSENI, said: “Farming is one of our most important industries, but it is also one of the most demanding of jobs and carries with it significant long-term health risks.

“Farmers are facing chronic stress, prolonged exposure to sunlight and chemicals, contact with gases and fumes, and the physical demands of handling heavy machinery or animals.

“So, it is no surprise they are at greater risk of breathing difficulties, back problems, stress and certain cancers, all of which can have a devastating impact, not only on individual farmers but on their families and the wider agricultural sector.”

Monson added: “These issues are preventable. You can do something to protect yourself and your workers.

“So, we are urging everyone involved in farming to take a few minutes next week to visit our stand at the Balmoral Show where we can help people recognise the risks and take steps to protect themselves. Your health matters – come and talk to us about protecting it.”
