Canada Life reported that employer-provided virtual wellbeing services improved workplace productivity and health in 2025.

Nearly half of employees (48%) who used virtual GP appointments avoided taking time off work, while 46% returned to work more quickly after their consultation.

WeCare, delivered by Teladoc Health UK on behalf of Canada Life, allowed group protection members and their families to address multiple health issues in appointments lasting up to 30 minutes.

Half of those with GP appointments received a specialist referral, private prescription or fit note.

Over 6,800 mental health therapy sessions were delivered in 2025.

Of those who used the service, 82% reported improved overall mental health, 64% said their ability to cope had improved, 66% had reduced anxiety, and 76% felt happier.

Among 2,700 people who accessed the second medical opinion service, 82% were recommended to change their treatment and 28% received a change in diagnosis.

Treatment changes ranged from minor adjustments to major changes, with one in six recommended a significant shift.

For obstetrics and gynaecology cases, 19% requested a second opinion and 80% of those saw a change in treatment.

For cancer cases, 3% requested a second opinion and 62% were advised to change their treatment.

Chris Morgan, head of protection product & propositions at Canada Life, said: “WeCare usage in 2025 is evidence that employers who provide access to holistic wellbeing services as part of their employee benefits can actively contribute to the building of healthier, more resilient workforces – and boost workplace productivity by lowering health-related absence.

“Whether employees are living with a skin condition or seeking help with their mental health, providing access to services that deliver fast, appropriate and tailored care helps workers stay in or return to work more quickly, while also feeling better informed and more in control of health management.”
