Devon County Council has launched the sixth year of its Train4Tomorrow Skills Bootcamps programme, offering over 2,000 adults in the region funded training to help them move into jobs that are in demand.
The scheme, backed by Government funding through the national Skills for Life initiative, will deliver employer-designed training in construction, HGV driving, EV charger installation, artificial intelligence (AI) and data, and early years education.
Courses are open to those aged 19 or over in Devon, including Plymouth and Torbay.
People looking to move into new work will be guaranteed a job interview after finishing their course.
Training is linked to local vacancies to help participants into work in industries that are growing.
Providers will also focus on supporting care experienced young people, with placements, mentoring and extra help to tackle barriers.
Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, Cabinet Member for Rural Affairs and Broadband, said: “We know there are employers across Devon crying out for skilled workers, particularly in the early years sector, where nurseries, preschools, and childcare providers are facing critical shortages, and this impacts not only families but the wider economy.
“Train4Tomorrow directly responds to these gaps by equipping local people with the tools to succeed and regional businesses with the talent to grow.
“This is more than training, it’s a powerful investment in Devon’s economic future.”
There are over 60 bootcamps available, including courses in regenerative farming, project management, digital marketing and aircraft engineering skills.
Courses are worth up to £3,500 and fully funded for individuals.
The scheme is open to people from all backgrounds, including those returning to work, changing careers, self-employed or unemployed.
Training runs for five to 30 hours per week, up to 16 weeks, and is available online, blended or in person.
Previous rounds have helped over 4,000 learners into new sectors and long-term jobs.
Cottle-Hunkin added: “This programme is about removing barriers and opening doors for those looking to enter vital sectors, like engineering and early years education.
“Whether you’re returning to work, changing careers, or upskilling in your current role, Train4Tomorrow offers real training for real jobs, at no cost to the learner.
“It’s a win-win. Residents get access to new careers, and employers get the workforce they need to thrive.”
