The Healthcare People Management Association (HPMA) Excellence in People Awards 2025 shortlist has been published, with winners set to be named at the annual conference in Birmingham on 20th November.
Entries arrived from across the UK, with strong participation again this year.
The awards celebrate the best in HR and people management across the health and care sector.
Coventry and Warwickshire Health and Social Care Employability Academy, Coventry and Warwickshire ICB, Powys Teaching Health Board, Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust feature on the shortlist for the Health Education and Improvement Wales Award for Developing the Profession and People Professionals.
Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, NHS England and Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust have been selected for the Mills and Reeve Award for Achieving Impact Through Open and Inclusive Leadership.
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, University Hospitals Birmingham and Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust are in the running for the Award for Health and Wellbeing.
Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS trust, NHS England and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust have secured places on the shortlist for the Capsticks Award for Innovation.
Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board have been named for the Hill Dickinson Award.
Neil Forman from Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and James Stokes from Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust are up for the Award for Learner of the Year sponsored by HSJ Jobs in England.
Matthew Doyle from Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and Kirsty White from NHS Wales Employers, NHS Confederation make up the Wales shortlist.
No entries came from Northern Ireland or Scotland.
Bolton NHS FT, North West London Pathology and Oxford University Hospitals NHS foundation trust have been recognised in the Browne Jacobson Award for Excellence in Employee Engagement.
West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership, Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS trust and Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust are on the shortlist for the Award for Best Use of an Avoidable Employee Harm Approach.
Northern Care Alliance, South Western Ambulance Service and NHS South Yorkshire ICB are included for the Social Partnership Forum Award for Partnership Working Between Employers and Trade Unions.
Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, North London Partners Shared Services and the Princess Alexandra NHS Foundation Trust are listed for People Team of the Year sponsored by Ward Hadaway.
Brendan McConaghy from Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, Angela Jones from NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, Shelley Williams from Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and Jess May from Devon Partnership NHS Trust are contenders for Deputy People Leader of the Year.
Christine Joy from South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, Emma Newton from Liverpool University hospitals NHS trust and Sarah Simmonds from Aneurin Bevan university health board are shortlisted for People Leader of the Year.
