Unite members working as refuellers for Valero at East Midlands Airport have secured a two-year pay deal, bringing an end to the threat of strike action.

Under the agreement, the workers will receive a 6.5% pay increase in the first year and a further 3.5% uplift in the second year.

Payments are due in May’s payroll and will be backdated to June 2024.

The second year’s increase is scheduled for June next year.

Sharon Graham, general secretary at Unite, said: “Workers will be celebrating this excellent deal, which proves why it pays to be a member of Unite.

“Our mission to improve pay and conditions is once again putting more money in our members’ pockets.”

The deal also includes enhanced overtime rates, extra holiday entitlement, paid training and a one-off lump sum payment.

10 staff members are covered by the agreement, while six agency workers will gain indirect benefits.

Katie Morris, regional officer at Unite, said: “After a year of fighting to improve members’ pay, we are delighted to have won them a great deal.

“It is a clear example of why workers looking for decent wages and improvements to their working lives should join Unite today.”

Workplace Journal has reached out to East Midlands Airport for a response.
