Starting salaries for non-commissioned ranks will rise by nearly £1,000 to £27,282, while junior officers will see a £1,250 increase to £35,926.

The agreement delivers a 4.6% pay rise for staff, with around 20,000 lower-paid employees set to receive a 5.35% increase.

Phrases like ‘no worries if not’ and ‘just checking’ are linked to missed pay rises and late payments.

The increase means hourly rates will go up to £13.28 from 29th March 2026.

From 1st April, retail assistants in England, Scotland and Wales will earn a minimum of £13.00 per hour, with the rate rising to £13.71 in London.

The union said the current lack of a pay deal meant the lowest paid NHS workers needed an emergency pay rise just to stay above the legal minimum.

From 1st March 2026, store assistants nationally will see starting pay rise to £13.35 per hour, with colleagues inside the M25 receiving £14.71 per hour.

The research found 74% would rather move to a new role with better pay than negotiate at their current workplace.

The proposed uplift equates to an additional 47p per hour for newly qualified doctors, based on current pay rates.

The union – which represents around 150,000 council and education staff – will submit a pay claim at the end of November, along with other unions.

Around 1,200 workers are set to benefit from the deal, which follows pay talks where the company originally offered no increase.

The increase will apply to all ranks up to and including chief superintendents.
