Barclays allocates £500 share award to 90,000 employees

Barclays is giving a £500 share award to around 90,000 employees, marking the first time the bank has made such an equity handout, according to Sky News.

Employees were informed that they would receive a grant of 170 Barclays shares.

This initiative is set to cost between £45m and £50m.

CS Venkatakrishnan, chief executive of Barclays, said: “As we continue to execute and deliver on our commitments, I am optimistic about what we can achieve together in creating a simpler, better and more balanced Barclays.”

Barclays is expected to report improvements in its investment banking business in its full-year results later this week.
