Ikea is recruiting 10 players to work in paid positions at its virtual store on the gaming platform Roblox. The initiative, launching on June 24th, aims to showcase the non-linear career journeys available at the retailer.

The immersive experience, called ‘The Co-Worker Game,’ allows players to experience working in Ikea’s virtual universe. Fans will be able to live their home furnishing dreams and get paid for it, with a limited number of paid roles available. Applications for these roles are open from today until Sunday, 16th June.

Ikea has provided a first look at ‘The Co-Worker Game,’ which offers players a glimpse into Ikea’s unique career approach, where lateral moves across departments are common. This is the brand’s first venture into mainstream gaming, providing an opportunity to immerse in Ikea’s work culture.

Applications for the paid positions in the virtual store are open until 16th June, with 10 new co-worker roles available. Successful applicants will be able to showcase their skills, assist customers, and get promoted to different departments, reflecting real-world career progression.

In addition to the paid co-workers, the broader Roblox community and Ikea fans can explore the virtual Ikea world, work in the Swedish Food Market and Bistro, and organize showrooms using Ikea products. Participants can win exclusive Ikea user-generated content (UGCs).

Darren Taylor, Country People and Culture Manager at Ikea UK and Ireland, said, “We’re excited to be the first brand to launch paid work on Roblox to showcase how we do careers differently, bringing our unique careers philosophy to life. At Ikea, there is no set route to career progression. Our co-workers are able to change roles, switch departments, and grow in any direction they choose, both in the game or in the real world. There are many ways to learn and grow at Ikea, and that’s what Ikea on Roblox is all about.”

Virtual interviews for shortlisted applicants will take place between Thursday, 14th June, and Tuesday, 18th June 2024. Each successful applicant will be paid an hourly Ikea Co-Worker rate for their time on the game.

Ikea on Roblox, developed by The Gang, a Swedish game design company, launches on June 24th.
