Mitie Group plc has been awarded five stars by the British Safety Council for its health and safety standards.
The audit found Mitie had strong health and safety procedures supported by committed leadership and training through its Live Safe Programme.
It showed that Mitie uses data-driven systems to monitor safety and encourages feedback from staff.
Additionally, the review found Mitie sites are clean, well-managed and meet workplace welfare, food safety and regulatory standards.
It also showed how Mitie promotes a culture where hazards are reported and discussed in governance forums.
The company also runs awareness campaigns and inclusive practices to support diversity, equity and inclusion.
The five-star award followed a review of documents, interviews with management, staff and stakeholders, and observations at Mitie sites in sectors such as defence, aviation, waste management, healthcare, retail and security.
The audit measured leadership, commitment, risk management, health and safety culture and ongoing improvement.
Peter Dickinson, chief legal officer at Mitie, said: “We are proud to have been awarded five stars by the British Safety Council for our health and safety practices.
“This recognition is a testament to the unwavering commitment by colleagues in making Mitie’s health and safety standards the benchmark for best practice in the industry and beyond.
“Through a culture where safety and wellbeing are prioritised, our goal is simple; zero harm to our colleagues, our customers, and to the members of the public passing through the facilities we take care of.”
Mike Robinson, CEO at British Safety Council, said: “The award of a five-star grading following our occupational best practice Health and Safety Audit is an outstanding achievement and is reflective of a proactive organisation which is committed to continual improvement in its health and safety arrangements and managing risks to workers’ health, safety and wellbeing.
“Mitie should be very proud of this achievement.”
