Associated British Ports (ABP) has become the first port operator to buy The Scarlett Box, a menstrual care kit made for maritime workplaces.
The Port of Southampton will be the first site to use the kit.
The kit is designed to meet the needs of staff working at sea, with water-resistant sealed products for safety and hygiene.
Scarlett Barnett-Smith (pictured, left), founder of The Scarlett Box Ltd, said: “My passion for maritime is at the heart of this business.
“When I introduced the prototype at London International Shipping Week, the product gained huge interest from large shipping groups, port operators and product providers, all ready to make orders.
“I am delighted that ABP, as the UK’s largest port operator, is leading the way as the first port operator to officially introduce The Scarlett Box.”
Barnett-Smith added: “With the goal to change the industry for the better – one Scarlett Box at a time – this product ensures dignity, safety and preparedness for women at sea, and I’m thrilled to see ABP championing the change.”
Tim Morris, group head of corporate communications at ABP, said: “We are proud that ABP and Southampton is leading the way in introducing The Scarlett Box.
“Empowering women in maritime is important for the future of our industry, and practical solutions like this make a real difference.
“This initiative reflects ABP’s commitment to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive, and we hope it encourages others across the sector to follow suit.”
Laura Davies, diversity & inclusion and talent partner at ABP, said: “This initiative is about more than just providing products, it’s about sending a clear message that women belong in maritime.
“We are working hard to attract and retain women in the industry, and solutions like The Scarlett Box help remove barriers and make our industry more welcoming in a very simple, practical way.”
