Avanti West Coast has picked up the Investors in Diversity Bronze Award for its approach to building an inclusive culture.

The train operator worked with the National Centre for Diversity, which is the UK’s longest standing provider of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) accreditation.

The assessment looked at whether Avanti West Coast had a solid base for embedding diversity and inclusion across the company and found it met the criteria for the Bronze level.

Avanti West Coast was recognised for policies and training aimed at building an inclusive and supportive workforce, including sessions for the executive leadership team.

The accreditation supports the company’s aim to roll out the FREDIE model – covering fairness, respect, equality, diversity, inclusion and engagement – at work.

Jo MacPhail, people director at Avanti West Coast, said: “We’re proud to have been recognised for our commitment to build an inclusive, diverse and engaged workplace.

“This accreditation is the latest step in our efforts to offer a place to work where colleagues feel valued and respected regardless of their background.

“We look forward to continuing to further develop our culture across the wider business, as we strive to have a workforce that is representative of society and the communities we serve.”

Solat Chaudhry, CEO of the National Centre for Diversity, said: “We are delighted that Avanti West Coast have achieved Investors in Diversity Bronze, and I would like to extend our congratulations to all their colleagues on their success to date.”
