Job hunting is no longer limited to desks or dining tables, with research from CV-Library showing that almost a quarter (24%) of jobseekers admitted to applying during work hours at their desks or while working from home.

The survey of CV-Library users highlighted other locations where applications are being sent, with over half (47%) saying they have applied for their next role from their bed.

18% said they were job hunting while on holiday, and 7% used time on a dog walk to check listings, 5% searched between workouts at the gym.

Generational habits also differ, as around 70% of Gen Z jobseekers said they apply from bed.

Millennials were more likely to send applications on holiday (20%) or at the gym (6%), while Gen X tended to stick to more traditional settings, though a third (34%) still admitted to applying from bed.

CV-Library said these trends are linked to the rise of mobile job searching, with its mobile app seeing record downloads.

Hannah Cornish, recruitment expert at CV-Library. said: “With busy lives and demanding jobs, people are squeezing job hunting in wherever they can – whether that’s lying in bed at night or even during personal time on the loo.

“It shows how important flexibility and simplicity is for jobseekers – if the application process is too time consuming, they’ll move on. For employers, that means making it quick and easy to apply or risk losing great candidates.”
