The largest cohort of apprentices to train at HETA’s £5.5m facility on the South Bank of the Humber has now joined their employer sponsors.
82 apprentices, including electricians, engineers, process operators, fitters and welders, have completed their first year and moved into industry placements.
The purpose-built centre at Stallingborough opened in late 2023, expanding HETA’s footprint in the region.
70 learners were welcomed in the first year. Numbers rose by 17% for 2024/25, reflecting growing demand for trade skills.
Apprentices will continue to attend the centre one day a week for the next two years, with identical numbers already enrolled for 2025/26.
Iain Elliott, chief executive of HETA, said: “It has been extremely rewarding to see our latest facility abuzz with activity this past year.
“Decisions to invest substantially in the future workforce are incredibly important, and we made a major commitment to the Grimsby-area with this new build.
“We can see the pipeline ahead, we understand just how vital engineering skills are, and we’re delighted to see the latest cohort go out to employers.
“We trust that all we’ve delivered in the first 12 months of their apprenticeships will set them on a fulfilling career path, following thousands of others in nearly 60 years of operations.”
The Stallingborough site specialises in mechanical, electrical, fluid power, pneumatics, machining, maintenance, fabrication, welding, manufacturing, project management and process operations.
Installation has recently been added to the standards.
Jonathan Brooks, operations director at Scunthorpe-based ESM Power, said: “Partnering with HETA isn’t just about filling vacancies – it’s about investing in talented, motivated people who grow with us.
“Their apprentices bring fresh ideas, energy, and up-to-date skills that add real value to ESM Power Ltd.
“By supporting apprenticeships, we’re building our future workforce from the ground up and creating real career pathways backed by hands-on experience.
“It’s a genuine win-win, and we’re proud to be part of that journey alongside HETA.”
HETA, which also operates facilities in Scunthorpe and Hull, works with more than 400 businesses and supports 240 new apprentices across its three sites.
Alongside apprenticeships, the organisation delivers upskilling courses, as well as Higher National Certificate and Higher National Diploma qualifications.
Employers are still being sought for some apprentices enrolled on a study programme, which combines qualifications with CV writing, interview training and employability skills.
