Almost 10,000 former Wilko staff are set to share a £2m payout after GMB union won a legal case on their behalf.
An employment tribunal ruled that Wilko failed to properly consult staff before going into administration in 2023.
Around 9,000 ex-store staff who worked in Wilko shops with 20 or more people will receive four days’ pay, while about 1,100 who worked in distribution or support centre roles will get 13 days’ pay.
GMB took the case forward for thousands of its members who lost their jobs when the discount retailer collapsed.
David Bartlett, former Wilko worker and GMB rep, said: “It has been a long, hard, slog getting this money – the very least Wilko workers deserve after the way they were treated.
“In no way will this make up for the stress and anxiety they faced during those dark days in 2023.
“But GMB hopes it will give them a much-needed boost as they move on with their new lives and careers.”
PWC confirmed that the Redundancy Payments Service (RPS) will process the payments in line with its usual processes, and will already have the employee information which was provided to them in 2023.
