Marian Evans, chair of Monmouthshire Building Society, has been named Non-Executive Director of the Year at the Institute of Directors Awards Wales.
The award recognises non-executive directors who have made a significant contribution to organisational strategy, governance and financial performance. The annual IoD Awards Wales celebrate business leaders across the country for leadership, innovation and business excellence.
The judges praised Evans for her role in guiding the building society through a period of strategic and technological change alongside record performance. They highlighted what they described as her “outstanding stewardship”, governance expertise and leadership approach.
Evans said: “Just to be nominated was an honour, but then to take away the win was truly humbling.
“Above all the win is testament to the fact that leadership potential is not determined by privilege, or where you start but by integrity, resilience and determination. It is also a celebration of how important non-executive directors are to the Board team and the success of large organisations and businesses such as a Building Society.”
The IoD Wales judges said: “Marian has guided the Society through record performance alongside major strategic and technological transformation. Judges recognised her ethical leadership, governance expertise and ability to balance challenge with support.”
Will Carroll, chief executive at Monmouthshire Building Society, said: “I was so proud to be there on the afternoon and see Marian get this very prestigious award.
“She is integral to the growth and transformation strategy that we’ve been going through and will continue to do so in the coming months. Personally, she’s a wonderful colleague and confidante and I am so pleased that the IOD recognised her in this way, for the contribution she brings to our Building Society every day.”
