Teladoc Health UK has launched an expanded version of its virtual clinic, aimed at improving access to private healthcare for employees while helping employers manage rising benefit costs.

The updated model is designed to provide a single, integrated healthcare ecosystem, offering physical, mental and lifestyle support through one platform.

It comes as employers face increasing pressure from rising healthcare costs and ongoing NHS backlogs, which are exposing gaps in workforce provision.

Private medical insurance (PMI) remains one of the most expensive employee benefits and currently covers only around 4.8 million UK workers.

Teladoc Health UK’s approach is positioned as a more scalable alternative, enabling organisations to extend healthcare access across their entire workforce at a lower cost.

The system incorporates clinical triage, referrals and care coordination, allowing employees to move more easily between services and access treatment more quickly.

By structuring services around integrated care pathways rather than standalone offerings, the model aims to resolve more cases within the platform and reduce the need for onward referrals.

Services available through the virtual clinic include 24/7 GP access, specialist care pathways, mental health support, physiotherapy, expert medical opinions and lifestyle services such as nutrition and weight management.

It also includes dedicated programmes for menopause and broader men’s and women’s health.

Dr David Griffiths, chief medical officer at Teladoc Health UK, said: “Employers are under growing pressure to support workforce health while managing rising costs.

“Traditional PMI was never designed for the more common, everyday health issues many employees now face, which is why there is a clear need for a more scalable approach.

“Teladoc Health UK’s model offers a scalable way to give entire workforces access to private healthcare at a much lower cost than PMI, while improving speed of access and outcomes.

“By bringing triage, clinical pathways and multidisciplinary care into a single system, it can resolve more health needs earlier and reduce the need for more complex interventions later.

“For employees, that means quicker, easier access to care. For employers, it means lower absence and higher productivity.”
