67% of employees would like access to a flexible company vehicle, while 1% currently have access to one, research conducted by SIXT UK has found.
Use cases for such a vehicle included long business trips (42%), when a personal vehicle is undergoing maintenance (40%), when a different vehicle type is required (23%), to test an electric vehicle (EV) (14%) and for seasonal spikes that require extra team capacity (12%).
Employees said they valued vehicles that are clean and well maintained (40%), have inclusive insurance and maintenance (39%) and guaranteed availability (38%).
Seven in 10 employees surveyed said that they had been left out-of-pocket for work travel expenses.
SIXT’s research found that 75% of those who travel for work used their own vehicle, while 20% had company cars and 8% used a car share or subscription service.
8% used short-term rental and 6% used a pool car.
56% of drivers who use their own vehicle for work said they experience vehicle related disruption each year.
Andrew Smith, managing director at SIXT UK, said: “Our Mobility Study makes it clear: employees increasingly expect flexible vehicle options.
“To meet this shift, businesses must evolve beyond traditional fleets and embrace adaptable mobility solutions.
“Doing so not only enhances employee satisfaction, but also strengthens operational efficiency and creates a meaningful competitive advantage – which is exactly what the SIXT+ subscription service is designed to support.”
