Disabled jobseekers will have the chance to meet employers signed up to the Disability Confident scheme at a job fair taking place at the Guildhall in Bath on 23rd October.
Bath & North East Somerset Council’s (B&NES) Business and Skills team, Achieve in B&NES, is working with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to organise the event.
The Disability Confident scheme is voluntary and helps employers recruit, retain and develop disabled workers.
It supports the Government’s aim to halve the employment gap between disabled and non-disabled people.
The Disability Confident Job Fair will run from 10am to 1pm at the Guildhall, High Street, Bath, BA1 5AW.
Attendees will be able to speak to local employers, find out how they support disabled staff and look at current vacancies.
Organisations expected at the event include Wessex Water, Curo, Arthur David, Network Rail, Bath City Farm, the Council’s Recruitment team, Skills Connect, Future Bright, We Work For Everyone and Youth Trailblazer.
Councillor Paul Roper, Cabinet Member for Economic and Cultural Sustainable Development at Bath & North East Somerset Council, said: “This event is an opportunity to highlight local organisations that have signed up to the government’s Disability Confident Scheme, showing that they value diversity and are actively building accessible workplaces.
“I would encourage people to come along on the day, whether they are seeking their first role, considering a career change or wanting to explore what options there are because it offers a fantastic opportunity to speak face-to-face to key people from various organisations and get advice and encouragement to take that next step.”
