Pat McFadden replaces Liz Kendall as Work and Pensions Secretary

McFadden was previously Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for Intergovernmental Relations.

Pat McFadden has replaced Liz Kendall as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions after Kendall was sacked in Labour’s cabinet reshuffle, following the resignation of Angela Rayner.

McFadden was previously Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster between 5th July 2024 and 5th September 2025 and Minister for Intergovernmental Relations between 5th September 2024 and 6th September 2025. 

He was elected as the MP for Wolverhampton South East in May 2005.

The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions has overall responsibility for the department, including strategy, planning, performance, reporting and governance. 

They also have direct responsibility for departmental spending.
