Former ELLE editor and founder of automotive consultancy Tough Crowd Natasha Bird (pictured, left), and venture capital funded entrepreneur, non-exec director and keynote speaker Rachael Twumasi-Corson (pictured, right), have joined forces to create an event aimed at helping attendees craft their career.
‘The Pivot’, taking place on 24th July at the NoMad London, will focus on creating the confidence to change careers and direction, as well as “mastering the art of spin,” in order to make the most of opportunities in the current climate.
This comes at a time when local and international market upheaval is weakening job security for many, while tech advancements are changing the shape of work and the demand for skills.
Meanwhile, the approach to work has also changed, with a lessening emphasis on lifelong careers, and a greater focus on factors such as wellbeing, work-life balance and job satisfaction.
An Indeed Flex survey of 2,000 Brits found that while half (50%) intended to stay in their current roles in 2025, 33% were exploring new employment opportunities, and 17% were undecided about their career plans.
Nevertheless, according to City and Guilds & Burning Glass Technologies, 32% of people have no idea where else their current skill set might be useful, 34% were concerned about starting over again, 21% lacked knowledge of other sectors, and around 19% expressed an overall lack of confidence in changing careers.
To address this, Bird and Twumasi-Corson will come together for an ‘in conversation’ style event, with a Q&A, workshop and networking, on the evening of 24th of July.
They will consider the challenges and opportunities involved in changing industries, forming businesses and developing and deploying an effective network.
Bird said: “We have designed an evening to help you recession-proof your career, master the art of spin, build professional confidence and pivot quickly when life throws you curve balls or you want to try something new.
“Whether you’re navigating a restructure, returning from maternity leave, founding a new business or finally going freelance before AI swoops in, The Pivot will leave you inspired and ready to make big moves.
“Between us, we have pivoted across industries, raised funding, grown businesses, reinvented ourselves and developed huge networks.
“The Pivot is an event learn how the power of strategy and storytelling can help you navigate through challenging times.
“We’ll discuss adapting businesses, leveraging new tools, telling the right stories and letting your allies lift you up.”
Tickets for the event are available for purchase on eventbrite.
