ISS has opened a new ‘Healthcare Training Academy’ at University Hospital Hairmyres in South Lanarkshire.

The facility sits next to the hospital’s existing training areas and will provide training for ISS employees including housekeeping, portering and estates teams.

The academy will train staff in a mix of virtual and hands-on skills, such as technical tasks, leadership and sustainability.

It includes a mock ward bedroom with hospital bed, furniture, shower, wash hand basin, toilet and vinyl flooring.

The set-up is designed to give staff practical experience in technical jobs like cleaning to ISS’s ‘Pure Space’ methodology, repairing nurse call systems and servicing medical gas pendants.

Donna Brown, managing director for healthcare at ISS UK & Ireland, said: “ISS is proud to support facilities management excellence in healthcare with the launch of this new Healthcare Training Academy at University Hospital Hairmyres.

“This underscores our commitment to equipping our people with the skills needed to deliver exceptional services, enhance patient care and support the amazing clinical staff at Hairmyres.”

Sandy Clark, ISS key account manager at University Hospital Hairmyres, said: “I’m delighted to see the introduction of the ISS Healthcare Training Academy, which will help take our training capabilities to a new level.

“Being able to carry out training in an environment which is as close as possible to real life will be invaluable in inducting new employees and re-training existing team members.

“I look forward to watching the progress and seeing first-hand the positive impact that the Academy will bring for our customers and people.”
