The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) is taking part in Mental Health Awareness Week, which starts today, 12th to 18th May.
The event, led by the Mental Health Foundation, aims to encourage conversation and reduce stigma around mental health, with this year’s theme being ‘community’.
The CNC said its workforce benefits from strong staff networks.
Employees have access to occupational health support, including an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), PAM Wellness, which offers confidential help and counselling for staff and families on issues such as stress, anxiety, bereavement, medical matters and finances.
The EAP is supported by peer networks, such as qualified Mental Health First Aiders, the Diverse Ability and Wellness Network (DAWN), and trauma risk management (TRiM) practitioners, who support staff after traumatic events.
The constabulary also works with staff associations including the Civil Nuclear Police Federation and Prospect.
Staff can use on-site gyms, get annual wellness assessments and receive fitness advice.
Michael Vance, chair of the Strategic Health, Safety and Wellbeing Group, said: “The CNC is committed to fostering an inclusive culture and creating a supportive working environment, so everyone can feel safe to be their authentic self at work and be enabled to reach their potential.
“Every one of our employees faces individual challenges that can impact their mental health, and so raising awareness, having open conversations and challenging the stigma around mental health is vitally important.”
