The British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) has taken over secretariat services for Safety Groups UK (SGUK) from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

SGUK brings together local and regional voluntary safety groups across the UK to help employers manage workplace safety and health risks.

The new arrangement is expected to boost national coordination and support for these groups.

Alan Murray, chief executive of BSIF, said: “I have been involved with SGUK and have engaged with local groups over the years; I have the greatest respect for them and their efforts in sharing best practices and playing their part in tackling the challenges of safety and occupational ill-health across the UK.

“I am confident that with the added support of BSIF, we, collectively, will continue to play our part in keeping the workforce of the UK safer and healthier.”

Stephen Laws, chair of SGUK, said: “I am extremely excited about this next chapter for SGUK.

“With the help of BSIF, we aim to develop our connections with the local groups, expand our support to new groups and continue to grow our alliances with the leading Health & Safety organisations.”
