18% of Brits use artificial intelligence (AI) tools at least weekly for work or study, with 7% using them daily, data from YouGov found.

Most said they turn to AI to find factual information, with 80% using it for simple topics and 75% for complicated ones.

Frequent users were more likely to notice mistakes or ‘hallucinations’ from AI chatbots.

YouGov found that 33% of daily users said they encountered hallucinations “very or fairly often”, while 11% said they had never noticed errors.

Trust in AI as a source of factual information remained low, with only 14% of Brits rating AI chatbots as six out of ten or higher for trust, the same level as tabloid newspapers.

Among those using AI daily for fact-finding at work or study, trust rose to 43%, matching trust levels for broadsheet newspapers and news podcasts.
