Pearson and Google have agreed a multi-year partnership to speed up the rollout of artificial intelligence (AI) tools for schools.

The companies said they would use Google’s Vertex AI platform, including Gemini and LearnLM, to make Pearson’s digital learning products more tailored for pupils and more useful for teachers.

The focus is on K-12 schools, with plans to improve study tools, progress tracking, and access to learning materials.

The new tools aim to give teachers more data on pupils’ progress and help them target lessons to meet curriculum standards.

The firms also plan to use Google’s content generation tools, such as Veo and Imagen, to speed up delivery of lesson materials and assessments.

Pearson and Google will look at how their products could link up and will work together on responsible AI standards to keep student data safe and private.

The agreement will also see Google Cloud continue using Pearson’s Credly platform for professional badges and certifications.

Omar Abbosh, CEO of Pearson, said: “When applied thoughtfully and responsibly, AI has the power to transform K-12 education, moving beyond a one-size-fits-all model to support each student on their unique learning journey.

“By combining Pearson’s deep learning expertise with Google’s technology and AI capabilities, we will deliver a more personalised experience for students and equip K-12 teachers with tools that help them to focus on what matters most: sparking curiosity, developing critical thinking, and fostering a lifelong love of learning.”

Tara Brady, president, google cloud EMEA, said: “AI and advanced capabilities of agentic AI are set to unlock unprecedented potential within education by accelerating personalised learning journeys.

“Our collaboration with Pearson is about unlocking this potential.

“Using Google Cloud’s advanced AI models and agentic expertise, students will receive support tailored to their individual pace and needs, and teachers will be equipped with intelligent tools and actionable insights, so they have greater capacity for educators to focus on inspiring curiosity and preparing students to thrive.”
