Rising living costs are continuing to squeeze household finances, prompting more workers to look for additional ways to earn, according to research from CV-Library.
Data revealed that searches for “best side hustle 2026” are up 90% since the start of January, signalling growing demand for flexible income options as the new year begins.
In response, CV-Library has identified the top 10 highest-earning second jobs and side hustles that do not require a degree, with some offering potential full-time equivalent earnings of up to £40,000 a year.
Topping the list is Uber driving, which can generate average earnings of £40,000 on a full-time equivalent basis, followed by yoga instruction (£37,269) and virtual assistant roles (£36,663).
Other high-earning options include online tutoring, copywriting and personal training, all of which combine strong earning potential with flexible working patterns.
CV-Library’s research highlighted the growing appeal of remote and freelance roles, such as virtual assistants, copywriters and online tutors, which allow workers to fit additional work around existing jobs or personal commitments.
App-based and local services also remain popular, with lower barriers to entry making roles like Uber driving and dog walking accessible ways to generate extra income quickly.
Katie Emerton, recruitment expert at CV-Library, said: “Side hustles are no longer just a ‘nice to have’, they’re becoming a core part of how people manage their finances.
“Flexible roles not only help people protect earnings but also allow people to grow their skills and explore alternative career paths.
“The key is finding roles that fit around your lifestyle.”
