Central Bedfordshire Council secured £1.5m from the Department for Education (DfE) to fund skills bootcamps in the region.

The money will go to Bedfordshire Employment and Skills Academy (BESA), the council’s apprenticeship and skills hub, for free training courses in digital, construction, green skills, transport and logistics, and early years.

Courses last up to 16 weeks and are designed to fit around family and other commitments.

Training is hands-on, and everyone who completes a course gets a guaranteed job interview.

The bootcamps are open to anyone over 19 years old who meets residency requirements and has the right to work in the UK.

Councillor Steven Watkins, Executive Member for Assets, Business and Housing at Central Bedfordshire Council, said: “The Skills Bootcamps are a real boost for people and businesses across Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough.

“They will give residents the skills, experience and confidence they need to access good jobs and build rewarding careers, while helping local employers grow by providing a workforce ready to meet their needs.”
