Thousands of overseas care workers employed by HC-One will be able to remain in the UK after the provider reversed its decision to limit visa sponsorship to only “business critical” staff.

The change follows public and staff concern over the original policy, which had raised the possibility that around 3,000 workers could lose sponsorship.

HC-One has now confirmed it will continue to sponsor any existing employee who meets the Government’s visa requirements.

More than 700 people signed a petition calling for the policy to be reconsidered.

Will Dalton, GMB National Officer, said: “HC-one’s initial visa change would have forced out thousands of loyal, experienced care workers out of the country.

“It would have completely devalued professionals who have shown years of dedication to residents.

“Now, they can sleep easy.

“We’ve got to congratulate HC-One for rethinking; they’re going to value quality over quantity and bring confidence to migrant workers dedicated to providing care.”

Workplace Journal has reached out to HC-One for comment.
