UK Music has rolled out its Five Ps guide aimed at improving equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) across the music industry.
The guide came after consultation across the sector and sets out five key areas: people, policy, partnerships, purchase, and progress.
The goal is to help music companies move beyond pledges and make diversity part of their operations.
The Five Ps guide focuses on fair hiring, inclusive work culture, clear policies, working with new partners, reviewing how companies buy goods and services, and tracking progress.
The diversity taskforce said organisations need solid EDI policies to support underrepresented groups.
Ammo Talwar MBE, chair of the UK Music Diversity Taskforce, said: “The Five Ps is a practical, powerful model designed to help music companies move beyond pledges and embed inclusion into every part of their organisation. It is not about ticking boxes.
“It is about rewriting the rules. The Five Ps offers a roadmap for every organisation, big or small, to be part of a cultural shift that makes diversity not just visible, but foundational.”
Paulette Long OBE, vice-chair of the Diversity Taskforce, said: “The Five Ps empowers organisations of every kind with the tools they need to break down barriers that prevent diverse talent from flourishing.
“By continually embracing the five principles of People, Policy, Partnerships, Purchase, and Progress, organisations can drive meaningful change, laying the foundations for a more inclusive industry for generations to come.”
Tom Kiehl, CEO at UK Music, said: “There is great appetite across the music industry to integrate UK Music’s approach to diversity and inclusion across businesses and organisations to achieve equity across the sector.
“This action plan responds to huge demand for the 5Ps, a concept originally launched in 2022, and provides vital tools to make this happen.”
