Telford & Wrekin Council has launched the Government-funded Connect to Work programme across the borough.

The scheme brings in £3.2m over five years and will offer tailored support to up to 300 people each year through the job box team.

Connect to Work is set up to help people with disabilities, health conditions or other barriers to get into and stay in work.

Residents can refer themselves or be referred by organisations they already work with.

Support is available for up to 12 months for those out of work and up to four months for people already in employment who need help to remain in or return to work.

The programme offers help with job searching, interviews, applications and curriculum vitaes (CVs).

Participants can also get advice about the financial impact of moving into a job, as well as on-the-job support for both employees and employers.

The council said people will get a quick response if any issues come up as they settle into a new role.

Employers and employees facing challenges due to disability or health issues can also refer themselves for support.

Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment & Skills, said: “We are delighted that the Connect to Work programme has launched – helping people break down those barriers which hinder them from finding employment and give them a foothold in the workplace, as well as supporting those with a disability or additional needs to find and sustain employment.

“We’re pleased to be working in partnership with organisations across the region to deliver this scheme and make a difference for our residents to help them achieve their employment goals.

“In Telford and Wrekin we are committed to helping people find work through our Job Box service and providing help and support to those who need it the most.”
