Mechanics at Hedin Mercedes-Benz sites in Brooklands, Bromley and Croydon will take strike action this summer after rejecting what they describe as a real-terms pay cut.
Unite said the dispute follows the company’s failure to make any pay offer for 2025, after awarding a 2% increase in 2024 when RPI inflation averaged 3.6%.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Hedin’s workers will not accept yet another real terms pay cut and neither will Unite.
“They have Unite’s total support in taking strike action for as long as it takes for an acceptable offer to be put forward.”
The workers, who carry out MOTs, servicing and repairs across the capital, will walk out on 23rd, 25th, 27th and 30th June, and again on 2nd, 4th, 7th, 9th and 11th July.
Unite warned that further strike dates will follow if the dispute remains unresolved.
Unite regional officer Lui D’Cunha said: “Mercedes Benz won’t welcome its name being linked to a dispute over real-terms pay cuts for workers in one of the priciest cities on the planet amid a cost-of-living squeeze.
“Their customers won’t be happy either, as they now face delays getting their vehicles serviced, repaired or MOTed. Industrial action can still be avoided, but that depends on Hedin coming back with a fair pay offer.”
The strike is expected to disrupt services for Hedin Mercedes customers across its three London locations.
