Department of Health and Social Care appoints director general for people

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has appointed Danny Mortimer (pictured) as permanent director general for people, working across the Department and NHS England. 

Mortimer, currently CEO of NHS Employers and deputy CEO of the NHS Confederation, will join the DHSC executive team in February.

Mortimer said: “I have worked in the NHS for over 30 years, and look forward to working with colleagues across government and the service to develop our shared ambitions for the people and patients served by the NHS. 

“I look back on my time at NHS Employers and the NHS Confederation with real gratitude for the support of colleagues and our members.”

Matthew Taylor, CEO of the NHS Confederation, said: “On behalf of our members and staff, I would offer my congratulations to Danny Mortimer on his appointment as the Department of Health and Social Care’s new director general for people.”
