StepChange Debt Charity has appointed Sue Murdoch as chief people officer (CPO) to lead its people and culture work as the charity starts its new 2025 to 2030 strategy.

Murdoch brings over 25 years’ experience in telecoms, professional services, financial services, and banking, and has held senior roles covering transformation, organisation development, recruitment, reward, talent and inclusion.

Before this, she was CPO at two start-up banks, where she led people strategy and got regulatory approval.

Murdoch’s appointment comes as StepChange begins its new strategy focused on long-term impact and sustainability.

Murdoch said: “I’m proud to be joining StepChange at such a critical point in its journey.

“The charity plays a vital role in supporting people in financial difficulty, and I’m excited to help shape the culture and environment that enables our colleagues to deliver real and lasting impact.

“I look forward to working with teams across the charity to help build a confident, inclusive, and future-focused organisation.”

Vikki Brownridge, CEO at StepChange, said: “Our people are our most valuable asset, and Sue’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment as we begin to deliver our new strategy.

“Her leadership will be central to embedding the culture, skills and mindset we need to thrive through a period of significant change. We’re absolutely delighted to have her on board.”
