The Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF), has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, committing to supporting veterans, reservists, and service leavers.
The IAAF signed the covenant at the Automechanika Birmingham Motorvate event earlier this month, an event that highlights diversity, equity and inclusion.
Mark Field, CEO of the IAAF, said: “The skills and mindset of the UK’s Armed Forces community align perfectly with the needs of the aftermarket – from technical ability to problem-solving under pressure.
“Signing the Covenant is not only the right thing to do, it’s a smart move for the future of our sector.”
The pledge is part of the Mission Automotive campaign, set up by Mission Community and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), to help the automotive industry access Armed Forces talent.
The IAAF said it hopes that signing the covenant will help address the workforce challenges currently experienced by the automotive aftermarket sector, including higher technical demands, and an ageing workforce.
James Cameron, CEO of Mission Community, said: “The IAAF joining the Covenant is a significant step.
“The independent aftermarket touches every corner of the country – and that national footprint mirrors the distribution of veteran talent.
“We’re excited to work with IAAF members to turn this pledge into real, life-changing opportunities.”
