UK industries see significant wage increases; textiles and clothing manufacturing leads

Textiles, leather, and clothing manufacturing tops UK wage increase chart, with significant gains noted across multiple industries.

Recent research conducted by Journo Research in collaboration with global fintech group Plus500 has highlighted significant wage increases across various UK industries.

According to data sourced from the Office for National Statistics’ Wages and Salaries Survey, the manufacturing of textiles, leather, and clothing industry experienced the most substantial wage growth, with average weekly earnings rising by 12.31% from December 2022 to December 2023.

This increase saw wages in the industry climb from £489.18 to £549.41 over the year. Following closely were the agriculture, forestry, and fishing industry, which saw an 11.26% increase, and the real estate activities sector with a 11.25% rise in average weekly earnings.

The accommodation and food service activities industry also saw a notable increase of 9.99%, moving from £296.12 to £325.71.

The manufacturing of basic metals and metal products rounded out the top five with a 9.31% increase in wages.
