Strikes planned by Unite members at Arriva Northumbria for the week starting Sunday, 7 April 2024, have been put on hold as the employer presents a new offer.

The announcement made today (3 April) comes ahead of a crucial ballot set for Thursday, 4 April, and Friday, 5 April, where members will decide on the proposed terms. In light of the new offer, the scheduled strikes for the following week have been suspended, irrespective of the ballot outcome.

Should the members vote in favor of the offer, all planned industrial actions will be called off. Conversely, if the offer is declined, the strike is slated to recommence on 21 April for a week, with the potential for further action.

Unite regional officer Dave Telford commented on the decision: “As a good-will gesture we have called off strike action while our members consider a new offer from Arriva. But there should be no underestimation of the level of ill-feeling towards the company after the initial pay offer of just 4 per cent. Given Arriva Northumbria pays the lowest wages in the region our members have grounds for their unhappiness.”
