The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has announced the appointment of Asha Musoni as its new chief people officer (CPO). Musoni took over from Elizabeth Wallace, who had held the position on an interim basis since the role was established on the membership body’s executive committee last year.
Musoni was tasked with leading an in-house team responsible for people and culture, training and development, diversity, equity and inclusion, recruitment, and HR operations, including the execution of the CBI’s quarterly employee opinion and pulse surveys. In her role on the executive committee, Musoni also reported to the new people and culture sub-committee of the CBI’s board, established last year, and managed the ongoing relationship with the external Cultural Advisory Committee.
Before joining the CBI, Musoni was at Ofcom, where she served as head of people strategy. She brought over 18 years of public sector experience to the CBI, with a broad range of roles that included immigration, policing standards, disaster risk reduction, and, more recently, communications and regulation. Musoni has also been actively invested in the social progression of women and children, having previously held trustee roles in these areas.
Rain Newton-Smith, chief executive of the CBI, expressed her enthusiasm for Musoni’s appointment: “I am so pleased to be welcoming someone of Asha’s calibre to the CBI in such an important role, heading up our people and culture work.”
Musoni shared her vision for her new role, highlighting the importance of the CBI’s mission in supporting UK businesses: “As we look toward a general election the CBI’s role in supporting UK businesses is ever more important, and I’m delighted to be joining at such a critical time.”
