GMB union has said that thousands of women employed by Birmingham City Council will today receive confirmation of their individual equal pay settlement figures.

The development marks a significant moment in the long-running dispute, which has centred on historic pay discrimination within the Council’s workforce.

The union said the announcement follows a sustained four-year campaign led by women workers in GMB, who have sought redress for unequal pay.

The settlement figures are being issued as the Council moves to resolve outstanding claims and address pay inequalities raised by employees across multiple roles and departments.

Megan Fisher, GMB organiser, said: “After five years of fighting, this is an historic day as women across Birmingham find out exactly how the Council plans to settle their claims for equal pay.

“This will be a life changing moment for so many Brummies, with the impact expected to be felt across the City economy.

“This could not have happened without the hard work and determination of women workers who faced stolen wages for too long.

“Today is their victory and this a proud moment for those who ended this injustice”.

GMB said the settlement represents a major milestone for the workers involved and reflects the collective action taken throughout the dispute.
