More than 1,000 security guards, employed by G4S at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), are set to strike following a pay dispute.

The guards, who represent nearly 70% of the workforce paid at minimum wage levels, are reacting to what they describe as a below-inflation pay offer from G4S.

The strikes are scheduled to take place across the country on multiple dates: from midnight on 7 May to 23:59 on 8 May, on 13 May, 20 May, and from midnight on 28 May to 23:59 on 29 May.

Eamon O’Hearn, GMB National Officer, articulated the grievances, stating, “These security guards work hard in a difficult, demanding and often dangerous job.

“They deserve a proper, living wage for what they do. G4S seem unwilling to provide that, so workers are taking matters into their own hands.”
